808 State at Roskilde 1991

Post by solarex »

19 years in the hope and search, the radio feature of 808 State at Roskilde 1991 has finally surfaced. And I'm happy to share it with you here. Please move to sounds pages if you like.

It is 20 minutes featuring interview, commentary and live recording at the venue. As produced and broadcasted by the national danish radio corp.

Apparently, and new to me, this was the first ever 808 State festival gig.

This reminds me. GRAHAM, would you please please surface the version of Pacific, which you used in gigs back then. As heard here and on the other 1990/91 gig recordings available on 808state.com. I understand it was ment as a backing track for live saxophone. But please.

The holiest of the holy grails.

It is. He picks the comment about festivals being like animals at zoo.

Check the 808 State in Iceland (with Bjork) clips for more Martin. I guess it is on Tube.

Well. I guess we can blame Darren and Martin for that.

Also, I guess there was a bit rebelliousness towards the sort of music that festivals represented back then. Electronic dance music was an attitude towards the rock'n'roll and its followers.

Thanks for the effort for bringing that live version of Pacific to light. Much much appreciated.

your right in a way , the context was very antii rock at the time ,
and fitting into festivals took some getting used to,
I forgot that Martin did a lot of the MC ing,bet he did nt think it would be on the internet 18 years in the future.
I know us lot understand the context but it wont win any new comers .. you know what I mean.?

I might add, that the Roskilde 1991 festival was washed away in rain and mud. It broke the record up to that point of how much rain the festival saw, and they didn't know how to prepare for that or handle it.

Might explain why the lads to an extend was unhappy about it all.
