That's like asking a kid who he likes best between his Mommy and his Daddy!
Incidentally without putting the mockers on the new album-does anyone have an 808 tune that they erm...can't really get into ??
I honestly can't think of any.
Some stuff on the old state to stae cd is abit boring but sounds like jackson fraction make up for it.

i'd like to see a favourite track poll, not pointing just at singles,
my top 8 at mo are Pacific, Spanish Marching, Bird, Quincy, Wheatstraw, Chisler, Donkey Doctor & Crossword.

this is mystifying!!!
this album poll was always gonna court some controversy, but the current results make for some head scratching.i fing it very strange indeed that the 2 best albums (in my opinion) are only at 11 per cent when the more obscure albums are in the lead.maybe its the nature of fandom, not to be seen to like the albums that are more commercial successful or recognised or maybe its because sometimes you can feel more like a fan or priviliged to a movement if you revel in its obscure aspects.but seriously guys, 90 is really good but not that much better than everything else (better than EX:EL?? really???maybe you've just heard EX:EL too much!).for complexity and eloquence, Don Solaris wins hands down,i listened to it again last night and its beautiful. However, complexity doesnt necessarily mean better, you simply have to make that connection with the rythmic part of the brain (clue, what does it say at the bottom of the Newbuild cover?) and it that respect i think GORGEOUS is the best album. Its the right blend of complexity (which is deceptive in this and many 808 tracks) and downright concise tunes that get STRAIGHT TO THE POINT.feel free to post back to me if you want to discuss further but i sense that voting can be marred by nostalgia and the need to seek the obsure rather than true objectivity and non bias.
please do not take this post as a harsh critique of anyone on this board as i respect everyones opinions totally, i just wanted to give my two cents on this very interesting topic!!
cheers :)

interesting point from satan808, got me thinking...
i've always said 90 is my fave album, and don't get me wrong, i love it like a son, but thinking about it, a lot of my fondness for the album is probably down to what it meant at the time (and still means). Being 15 years old, listening to this fantastic music that sounds like nothing else, playing it to all my mates, the whole rave scene kicking off in a big way, the GMEX gigs, and everything else that goes along with growing up, drugs, girls, and being part of something.. i can't listen to 90 without all that old nostalgic feeling coming back and giving me rose tinted ears.
comparing 90 and Don Solaris side by side and purely on a sonic level, I have to admit DS has the upper edge...
gorgeous & black morpheous in particular tho, you guys must be listening to a different record to me

Remember that ex:el was far and away the biggest selling 808 album and with a higher number of people voting - say 1000, there might be a truer reflection of what is everyone's favourite 808 album. With only 28 votes being cast it is not surprising that are some obscure results. Just because 90 has polled more votes than ex:el doesn't mean that 90 is the better album. I agree with Rodders, if you compare 90 with Don Solaris and even ex:el on a purely sonic level then 90 loses out each time. It looks like a whitewash for The North At It's Heights though, which is a shame because it isn't crap. I voted for 90 by the way because it contains Pacific 202, Magical Dream and 808080808, not because I thought it was any better than ex:el or Don Solaris. I'm going to stop now before any more worms escape from the can.
To be honest, If I could choose my fave 808 album, it would consist of tracks of all of them. I constantly try to make a fave compilation but I really struggle as I can't fit everything on.
It boils down to diversity in my opinion. Every album has that different sound, I don't think any of the albums are better / worse than the others. Don Solaris is my personal fave, but I love all of them. 90 was probably the album that really made 808 and maybe for some reason its why it has most of the votes. Although EX:EL was the best seller, so going by sales that should be the best. It really is personal opinion and we can debate sonic difference, production etc... until we are blue in the face, but that is what it rests on. (not knocking anyone else's opinion)
I do like North at its heights and I really don't think this poll does it justice. I would like to hear the album stripped of Tunes' vocals, (no disrespect to him) to compare it to the others. I try to listen to the music, but the lyrics are too powerful. I still think it has some great moments. How many other bands do you know that could (or would) do that album. It was a brave release after 90, and I respect 808 for that. They have not become a one-sound outfit like so many other bands.
So I find it difficult to pick a favourite album, rather than it being 808's best work, I think the poll highlights personal choice. Perhaps if many more were to vote the outcome would be totally different. But how many would recognise 'Pacific' and 'Cubik' and 'In Yer Face' and automatically choose the album with those tracks on because that was 808's heyday, and they could automatically associate the era with those tracks. It's really a shame that Don Solaris didn't reach as many people. I'm sure Pacific has had more airplay than Bond or Azura, consequently I am sure more people own 90 than Don Solaris. But I suppose this is the Globalstate poll and of course we ALL own every 808 album don't we?
So maybe 90 is 808's best, I certainly think it is probably the most defining 'dance' album of the 90's, but it doesn't automatically make it the best.
If we could poll everyone everywhere that has heard an 808 album, now that would make for interesting results.
The debate rages on..............

There seemed to be so many cries for a poll. Now it's here not everyone seems to like the results. Interesting, all the different points of view though. I think I'll create a separate section for the polls, as they potentially can go on for a long time.
I too am guilty of voting for '90' as my fave album. Like others, all albums are my favourite, and all have their highs and lows, but if I had to choose which album to take on a island with me, yes it would be '90'.
And of course if an album gets no votes, it doesn't mean it isn't any good. North At It's Heights has got to be the most asked after album ever since this site went live.
