Olympic Truce in 2004 - the spirit of the tune 'Olympic'

Post by Dr.Walsh »

Dear all,

I put this in General 808 State Discussion as to me, this should compliment and enhance any future listenings of the track 'Olympic'. :)

OLYMPIC TRUCE IN 2004 (from: www.olympictruce.org)

The goal of the Olympic movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world. :)

The sacred Greek tradition of "Ekecheira" (truce) was born in the 8th century, serving as a cornerstone of the Olympic Games. :)

The Olympic Truce was observed for 12 centuries making it the longest lasting peace accord in history. :)

In 1896, the Olympic Games are revived. A legacy growing in a turbulent century, surviving the devastation of 2 World Wars uniting all nations through sport. :)

1992: The International Olympic Committee under the Presidency of Juan Antonio Samareneh calls upon the international community to observe the Olympic Truce (just months after the release of the 808 track 'Olympic' - note: I added this bit!) :)

1993: During its 48th Session the UN General Assembly launches an appeal to its member-states to observe the Olympic Truce. :)

1999: A record number of 180 United Nations member-states co-sponsor a resolution in support of the observance of the Olympic Truce during the Games of the 27th Olympiad in Sydney. :)

2000: The International Olympic Truce Foundation and the International Olympic Truce Centre are founded by the International Olympic Committee in co-operation with Greece. :)

The aim is:

Universal cease-fire of hostilities beginning on the seventh day prior to the initiation of the Olympic Games and lasting until the seventh day following completion of the Games. :)

A movement which affords the opportunity for peaceful resolutions within regions in conflict. :)

Ways you can help:

1. register as a truce supporter
2. get your friends to do the same
3. find creative ways to disseminate the Olympic Truce message

In my opinion all this beautifully reflects the vibe of the 808 tune 'Olympic' - it is almost as if 'Olympic' is the theme to the 'Olympic Truce' movement. :) Maybe we could suggest it...

Peace, love and butterflies :)

:-? We could now hold a discussion on how corrupt the Olympic committee is when awarding games, but that would probably end in a opinion-war similar to the one titled WAR in off topic..... :(

No matter - for everything a reason (as one monkey once said) and look to the future (as Fortran 5 once said). :)

In my opinion the Olympic Truce is a very cool idea - the timing is good aswell! :)

I do hope you'll support the Olympic Truce. :)

peace, love, butterflies and Olympic Truces :)

'Dr.' Walsh :)

PS Halva - I actually played 'Olympic' on a dance music radio station in Australia on the opening night of the Sydney Olympics and said that if the Olympics had gone to Manchester we'd all be larging it to 808 State instead! :)

PS Discussion on off-topic is not an opinion war - I'd say it was a healthy
discussion meself :)

I don't know about anyone else, but I for one have learned some interesting things from the "War" topic.
