What song was Pacific inspired by?

I read in an article many years ago it talked about Pacific but I can't remember if it said Pacific was inspired by or this other track was inspired by Pacific.

I could be wrong but I think the artist was from Germany and the group or song started with 'Th' the track sounds similar to pacific.

Sorry if this is vague, but I was very young and am now trying to find my fave tracks from that era.

I'd say that Pacific was pretty much a completely original track which spawned a thousand copies/samples, and a new genre of music (Ambient House). Maybe there's a jazz influence, but what struck me about Pacific the first time i heard it was that it sounded like nothing else. The only element of Pacific i've wondered about is the bird sample, which also appears on 'Sueno Latino' - another classic track of the time (with a similar flavour). Anyone know who was first to use that sample?

My mate has a track on a compilation album from the early-mid 80's which has the sax bit in it! I'm trying to find out from him what it is. I remember reading an NME article years ago saying that Pacific was the bastard son of this particular song.

There were a few influences in that track
The tropical vibe was cioming from listening to stuff by Santana especialy a
track called Aspirations from the album
Borbolleta (warm chords and soprano sax (not like kenny G though)Thats certainly what I was thinking when I put the saxon it ,I didnt really play sax but my friend Howard walmsley had left it in the studio from a session earlier that day with Biting Tongues, The chords allready gave that warm vibe,They were done by sampleing a major 7th chord from the juno 106 into
the casio fz1 and then playing it off that,
The bird call seemed pretty obvious to us because of things like Martin Denny which
I was ramming down evryones throght at the time (a 1950s exotica artist from Hawaii)

Thats when the soprano sax is at its best becuase it can be horrible in the wrong hands..Got to get that version though

the birds sample was also featured on various keyboards produced by Technics in the late 80's. I remember that from sessions playing around in the music shops, long before i got my own equipment.

I always thought it was a D50.

Was it one of those with digital drum samples?
I did my own remix of pacific on a casio sk-1 when I was 14 years old.
I'll try posting some real audio.

My favorite versions of Pacific are:

Pacific 202
Pacific - break

Listening to their last album I think 808 State need to go back to the Manchester techno/ break beat sound and lay off the drum n' bass.
Lets take Slam Alein Radio for example, you could tell these blokes were influinced by the album Ex:cel, fused that sound with electro.

Stephen Morris from NewOrder also used that same birds sample on The Perfect Kiss, the original 12", am I wrong? Released in 1985.
