That was a very interesting article and it highlighted a few things I hadn't thought of.
I agree that music has been devalued. The feeling when you bought a new LP (or even CD) and went home for that first listen while you read all the sleeve notes (even the copyright notice - or is that just me) has disappeared. I don't even listen to albums anymore because everything is on shuffle.

yes thats interesting about the cd buyer being over 30.
Ive noticed that my son is only interested in buying a certain tune
(mind you he is 9) but i do force him in to the Blind Vynil Stackpicker game.
where you have to pick out a vynil album at random ,think of a number from 1 to 10 and then sit through that track till the end..this has widened his I pod up a bit.(also makes a good compilation of rubbish,which you can listen to in a fresh way ,I like to shred it all in Pro tools and make like a Vynil Salad))
From an Artist point of view - I tunes is the worst payer in terms of royalties
(ie your slice of the pie) it seems with evry new format you get less which is ironic seeing it costs naff all to put it up.
I was trying to find out why Skam s distributer had nt got My new one in the
major stores(well not in MCR) ,but it seems that the sub genres of electronica etc are the first to suffer in terms of what those shops buy in.
(Is electronica a dirty word?)
Other things ive noticed is record companys scrapping stock because its cheaper to do that than ware housing it ..hence all those permnant SAles in megastores and those cheaper stores (Music Zone)just doing main catalogue stuff.
I know its up to artists to adapt to the change ,but i do like the album format -its so ingrained in me - I also like sleeve notes etc (as im shure you ve noticed- i even still think in terms of side a and b which i know is
pointless... but i get the feeling even with long term mates that attention spans are smaller these days and music product may be need to be smaller (less tracks) (not 13 or 14 like mine)

It does look like download will be the main format pretty soon. Which is sad, as I too belong to those people who love browsing stores for vinyl (and CD) treasures. Let's hope those specialist and second-hand stores will remain in business. I would find it extremely amusing if one day vinyl sales overtook CD sales again.

aged 5 and 3 (my son will soon be 15 months, so I don't know how fun this'll be for him, though!)

No ,it just relates to the stackpicker game..where you force your self to listen to obscure album tracks blindfolded... i supose you could just put your I pod on random,but the main thing is your not allowed to skip youve got to listen intently even if you dont like it.
