Songs for an improvement of mood

Post by Voleta1959 »

Which songs really have an effect on you when you're in depression. I mean, the songs which help you to be in good mood again. Interisting, which kind of melodies will be the most of all.

Kohntarkosz (1974) (in the words of the composer Cristian Vander of
french group MAGMA

"It's perhaps the more misunderstood of all the Magma's tunes, and the more complex one. It's based on a very syncopated rhythm where Time seems to be Counter time, and where Counter times emerge from Counter time ... leading to a very original spatial position. It provokes a physical and psychic feeling that is totally new, even by now. Still nowadays, many people — and many musicians — do think that this tune is based only on Counter time, and that's why they can't listen to or play it rightly. The tune is about a story between a Master and a disciple. To be followed..."

If youve got 45 mins to spare and you start at the begining and end at the end you should emerge elated! the version from Magma Live is best for me. if youve only got 7 mins listen to The Last Seven Mins which is the 1st 7 mins from thier album Attahk , how ever this puts my Mrs in a very bad mood so I couldnt gaurentee the mood enhancement.

Being more of a Skam/Rephlex person, Squarepusher's (and his brother Ceephax Acid Crew for that matter) more playful stuff and Luke Vibert's Kerrier District project (although that's very much disco) is the good mood music of my choice. Kerrier District 2 (2006, Rephlex) is the most uplifting EP I've ever heard.

You wouldn't have thought it, but Squarepusher really makes me feel good!

For me, we have:

Tangerine Dream - Choronzon (from Exit)
Tangerine Dream - Mojave Plain (from White Eagle)
The Prodigy - Music Reach 1.2.3.4. (from Experience)
Leftfield - Leftism
808 State - Europa (from Gorgeous)

Guaranteed to pull me out of the doldrums.

Despite the fact that the original poster was probably a spammer (advertising a song words site), since it's stimulated discussion, I'll add my two pence! 8)

Yup, New Order as well, but the KLF/JAMMS always makes me smile, especially "Burn The Bastards" (sampling Sly & the Family Stone and Michael Jackson amongst others) - absolutely superb! :D

Indeed, I had noticed that too, this is probably the first time a spammer has actually kicked off something good :-)
I've been digging out my James Brown (R.I.P.) collection and I have to say theres a lot of feel-good factor in his music!
