Recommendations please!

Right. My iPod needs an injection of fresh choonz so I need some recommendations from you musicals guru's who love the band called 808.

I've been listening some tracks from Squarepusher's Hello Everything and I'm quite impressed - but is there a better one?. So I need you recommend a Squarepusher album for me.

I've also been tentatively dipping my toe in the sea of Autechre. I first heard of them way back in '93 when they were just too far ahead of the game. I've got a few tracks on mp3 but I've been afraid to jump in and drown myself in their crazy waters by buying an album. Therefore, I need an Autechre recommendation.

While we're at it - I'd like a Ozric Tentacles and Aphex Twin album as well, please. I'm also open to other ideas.

How I do know that Markus is going to come back with Massonix?

BTW. I've just noticed that GlobalState is 10 years old this year. I'd like to offer my thanks to Markus for his work in keeping this site going and for creating a superb 808-community. Cheers dude.

I had a moment of insanity the other day and bought like seven albums off warpmart (and opti buk because I heard it was being deleted). More to the point though while doing so I discovered Plaid whose 'Trainer' double CD is bound to appeal to anyone into 808. I also got the Warp 10+2 Classics album, which has a load of awesome bleep-techno (well that's what they call it) tracks that arent available anywhere else ('Tricky Disco', 'Track With No Name' etc.) that are damn good.

On the same bleep-techno tip, LFO's 'Frequencies' is rather brilliant.

btw I've read Autechre's most 'accessible' album is Incunabula which really does kick arse, although the first Autechre album I bought was Untilted (which is immense as well, but much, much harder) so who am I to talk?

Cheers for all your suggestions. I'm watching a few on eBay. I'm not sure I'll be able to get round to some of the more obsucre ones (plaid - mbuki mvuki is £295 for the 12" here) but I'll try.

My iPod will love you all.

Right. I've managed to stock up on Squarepusher and Autechre and here's my view.

Squarepusher: Go Plastic, Hello Everything
I could not get into Go Plastic. In fact, some tracks actually caused pain. Hello Everything is 80% top and 20% pain. I don't know what the Vacuum track is all about - it's just a plain waste of track time imho. That said, I've kept most of Hello Everything on my iPod.

Autechre: Draft 7.30, Amber, Incunabula
I loved both Amber and Incunabula straight away. Although when playing them in the car I found I was constantly checking if I'd left my indicator on! Draft 7.30 is going to take a bit of work, I think. I've also got Tri Repetae, Chiastic Slide, LP5, Confield and Untilted but I haven't got round to listening to them yet.

Two weeks ago i got another album that an 808 fan would be insane to miss out on-Gargantuan by Spooky. On an Orbital tip, but as consistent as any of their albums (which is saying something).

I read about it a while ago on this forum, and seeing it in FOPP in Camden (they also had Analogue Bubblebath III-dunno how that ended up there!)risked it. It was a risk worth taking!!!!

Also on the same slant as Autechre-'Soup' by Bola is a good album. Also if you like 'Incunabula' you should check out the other Artificial Intelligence albums:

Artificial Intelligence I
Artificial Intelligence II (both various artists)
Surfing On Sine Waves-Aphex Twin
Bytes-Black Dog Productions

I don't think that's all of them but they're especially worth checking out. Also are: B12 Electro-Soma (I don't have this but desperately want it), most by Plaid ('Trainer' has all of the tracks from the incredible 'Mbuki Mvuki', btw) or anything by the Black Dog. 'The Book Of Dogma', a collection of their early stuff, looks awesome and is out in a couple of weeks (or less??)

I dunno if you'll be able to buy that lot with the money from the Squarepusher CDs but they are all worth a look!

I've been listening to the Book Of Dogma on Bleep.com and I like it. I've bought MSTRKRFT and Vitalic's OK Cowboy which John Ancodia recommended.

I'll have a look for your recommendations and let you know how it turns out.
