New Order Acid House Mixes by 808 State topic

Post by markus »

Topics on this subject seem to be fragmented all over the forum, so I'm starting the definite New Order Acid House mixes topic.

It's sold out at warpmart and single of the week at http://www.boomkat.com ! Nice reading at boomkat.com:
These tracks have long since gone into electronic music folklore, so it’s quite hard to believe that they have finally been dusted off, mastered and given a delicious vinyl-only release by those super good people at Rephlex. There are so many stories to tell about these awesome cover versions that we wouldn’t really know where to start, but suffice to say that many a notable DJ and musician around this part of the world has gone on at length about them since we opened our shop back in ‘98. Taken from live recordings it’s hard to imagine that these two versions are now almost 17 years old, hammered out and tweaked by the original 808 State lineup that included A Guy Called Gerald alongside Graham Massey and co, no doubt tripping into the clouds and completely immersed by all kinds of Acid, most notably of the squelchy kind. It’s a bit bizarre, but the office where we run boomkat from used to be the 808 State recording studio and at some point prior to that was the home of New Order’s management – so in the spirit of serendipity the incredibly good man Graham Massey has invited us into his home and has taken the time to sign 70 copies of this release just for you! Anyway, bring on the Prebuild album and give yourself a masterclass in prototype Acid you just will not want to mess with. Killer!!! **ALL SIGNED COPIES ARE NOW SOLD OUT**

Got mine earlier, one of three copies in HMV Belfast. Now if I can just find a deck to record it off. Really wish I'd hung on to one of my 1210's now, but it's kind of hard to sell one deck and a mixer.

Apparently the 12" is getting close to gracing the UK Top 75 chart. Suggest you buy your copy at an HMV store or http://www.hmv.co.uk (only £2.99). Client managed to get their single 'Radio' into the charts by asking their fans to purchase it through hmv...

wonder if they'd released it on cd single, it would have made top 40 , even top 20.

all the new order fans, 808 fans and acid heads would've bought a copy!

I haven't bought it, I d/l it for a listen first, and glad I did.

What do people make of it then?

To be honest, I thought it was the most boring remix I've ever heard.

[Blue Monday] The Juno 106 acidic bass sound is good, but the whole rest of the track is so weak, and just left me feeling empty after hearing it. I've given it plenty of listens in case it was a grower, but sadly, I just thought it wasn't very good at all.

[Confusion] Didn't think this was much cop either, sounded very badly mixed, and in places the timing sync seemed out to me?!

:-?
