With all the recent hype surrounding the hac, has any one else got any memories of the soundgarden or konspiracy 1990/91. Remember first time going in soundgarden, sweaty, never dark enough (big cheer when the lights went off once). Always "Come together" at end of night (though sometimes that Dr Alban "No coke" thing or "Spanish Heart"). Taping the radio show on Tuesdays and so finding out what you'd heard. Mad hand actions to that Evolution "Take me Higher" tune. The scientist "The bee". The fire exit being broken down cos it was too hot and loads of people standing in some side room. The night bus back with all the piss-heads fighting and eating burgers. Ace.

Yes, it was absolutely fantastic. Used to go on a Saturday night. It was near Afflecks wasn't it? Just found this site today after seeing a mini film of 808 state at the Cornerhouse last night and it reminded me. It was the first dance club I went to - I was only 16/17. I remember it being really hot and small, and 808 state being at the back DJing near the girls toilets. I remember the podium on the right handside. I remember when the police barged in one night and people whistling and I thought it was really cool. For some reason the only track I remember they kept playing was 'your son is dead'. Great times - used to love listening to them on the radio on a Tues 'a shout going out to'. What station was it? After that went to Richfields, the Golden, then the Pleasure Drome (great times), then Bowlers, then the Hacienda and the Boardwalk. Noone I speak to now has ever heard of the Soundgarden - so at least someone else does!

I think it was just a 'one off' last night - I have just looked at their website -www.cornerhouse.org and I can't seem to see it.
It was one short film that was part of a retrospective programme of 7 Manchester films from the last three Kinofilm Made in Manchester festivals (1999 - 2001).
The programme from last night says:

The original 16mm film rushes were inexplicably lost by the band's record company, but fungus-ridden reference tapes were unearthed years later in the directors cellar.
This organically matured footage was digitally reprocessed to create this short piece for OPTI BUK."
There was also someone there that was involved with 808 State, but I can't remember who. He was going to give a speech but didn't. I think it could have been the producer - but I'm not sure.

Rabbit warren of a club with loads of underground rooms in the corn exchange (now the triangle). Could be very dodgy with dealers stood on the stairs. Great thing was different dj's in each room so you could move around all night. Jam MC's played upstairs. Shut down sometime during 1990 I think.
