Post by IanPeel »

Anyone got a TVography either on paper (or on VHS!)? The Granada Reports and MTB Europe threads have got me all nostalgic!...

Wow! That's some list. The only things I can relate are The Word and TOTP performance of Cubik. I keep looking out for Pacific on TOTP2 but they don't appear to have got round to showing it yet, or maybe they have and I've just missed it. They make a habit of sneaking a programme in just when it's least expected - that's BBC's regional variations for you!
Graham - Can you remember what other tracks you performed on TOTP?

TOTP2 featured Pacific last year (if memory serves me correctly)?

Graham, you might want to let Gerald know about the performances featuring him, as he´s been wanting copies of those for some time!

I moved house a couple of weeks ago and was thrilled to find something I thought was *long* lost... My VHS of The New Sessions!!!

For Markus/NickKing/etc who was asking about this on the board before, The New Sessions was a series of concerts that aired on late night ITV in the early 90s. The first episode of the whole series featured 808 State live in concert - tracks are (from memory) Cobra Bora, Ancodia, The Only Rhyme That Bites, Pacific, Revenge of the Girlie Men and possibly a couple of others.

This would make a great DVD release at some point...

I have been working my way through my old VHS Tapes and converting them to quicktime movies via my dvcam, mac and imovie. If anyone wants to lend me their tapes I will return them with copies on CDR.

i have tons of vhs tapes with the following on :

PACIFIC - top of the pops
TUNES SPLITS THE ATOM - top of the pops
TUNES SPLITS THE ATOM - the word
OLYMPIC - the word
CUBIK - top of the pops
IN YER FACE - live @ wembley arena - great british music weekend on sky one
IN YER FACE - top of the pops
RAPIDO Interview, clips
O1 FOR LONDON Interview, clips
PLAN 9 - performance the beat on itv
THE BEAT Interview with Gary Crowley on itv
MOSES - performance on the beat on itv
MTV PARTY ZONE Interview '94
MTV PARTY ZONE 808 MEGAMIX
GIMME SHELTER - Chat, clips
PACIFIC - Performance on Hitman & Her
DANCE YOURSELF TO DEATH - short clip on Snub tv
MC TUNES chat & PACIFIC short performance on Dance International video magazine.

I've excluded all promo videos, as i had 90% of them on tape.

i also remember 808 doing 2 performances of Pacific on TOTP and The Only Rhyme That Bites - but i don't have them :(

going back to Neil's question, totp 2 is repeated every night at 8pm on UKTV G2 so there's a good chance to catch PACIFIC on there!

I've got a music box profile which features clips of Graham talking between Pacific & One In Ten videos. After it is a Janet Jackson profile!!! I've cut the end of with a horror movie, but I think its 1993?

Top find - what about releasing it via Karvavena? Now that would be superb!

TV appearances

Post by N.JOHNSON »

I would be very greatful if anyone including Graham could do me some copies of tapes of 808 TV appearances. I did have some long ago and to my horror my mum taped over them by accident. I went ape shit at the time. :( :x

The only piece i have left is the 808 state live show when they supported the Happy Mondays. The tracks on that are:

Cobra Bora
Ancodia
The Only Rhyme That Bites
Cubik - I think, not seen it for a while.
Revenge Of The Girlie Men (Disco State Remix)
Pacific 303

It was not the whole show but was all that was shown at the time on sky TV in 1991.

So if anyone can help i would be a happy man. I would pay for the tapes of course. :D

I remember a granada reports thing on 808 and family foundation and also something where one of the 808 lads was driving round in a car and fiddling with the knobs of some keyboard.

Thats it. Cheers

808 State interview and clips rapido British TV 06/03/91 A+ 5
808 State plan 9 the beat British TV 02/02/93 A+ 3

I'm thinking of replying back, but I don't actually have that many TV appearances (the odd TOTP peformance when it was repeated on TOTP2, etc).

Does anyone have a VHS/DVD with any of the above and any of the shows that Graham lists?

I'm due to get a copy of Gerald playing 'Voodoo Ray' on the Other Side Of Midnight (which I believe Graham also performs at - this may be the fabled Victoria Baths rave that's recently been mentioned on this forum)... Just waiting for the tape to arrive! :D

Oh, and on the promo copy of Gerald's recent album, there's an MPEG file of the Madchester documentary (the bits where Andy & Daz talk about Gerald followed by the bits of Gerald in Detroit with Derrick May).

Maybe its time for a 'Visuals' section to complement the 'Sounds' section, eh- markus?
